Before I launched the Fortitude Syndicate and built Beyond Discipline, I was the guy who tried everything but had nothing to show for it.
Every diet. Every supplement. Every secret system and newest program on the market. Every fad that promised results. I'd start strong, grind for a few weeks, then fall off. Again. And again. And again.
Sound familiar?
No matter how hard I tried, nothing stuck. And every failed attempt added another layer to the story I was telling myself: Maybe I'm just not the kind of guy who can do this.
My name is Matt. I'm a disciple, disciple-maker, and a servant of Christ Jesus. My life's assignments are many, but most important are: husband, father, son, friend, Soldier in the US Army, business owner, and coach — health & wellness, leadership, organization development, business, and football.
Throughout my youth, I was an all-state athlete in cross country and baseball. I graduated from an incredibly demanding military college and then spent the next 10 years serving my country in the Army, bouncing around the world from one combat zone to the next.
In my early 30s I transitioned from full-time military service to reserve military service, and joined the civilian workforce. And that's when my health and fitness decline started. Got married, started having kids, job demands increased, stress multiplied exponentially — you know the drill.
When my wife got pregnant with our second daughter, it was like I got pregnant with her — it seemed like I was growing faster than she was.
I tried everything, spent God-knows how much on every new system and magic supplement on the market. Some of it worked — temporarily. Nothing lasted. I resigned myself to a false truth: my best days were behind me, and I'd never be fit or healthy again.
Approaching my 40s, the weight and reality of time was already starting to set in. I knew that every new day wasn't one more — it was one less.
Then it happened. I got a wake-up call I couldn't ignore.
It was a Wednesday afternoon in early December 2023. I was sitting in my doctor's office for my annual checkup — just a few days before turning 40.
I was 35+ pounds overweight. In the worst shape of my life.
The doc walked in with a somber look on his face. He sat across from me, looked me in the eye, and laid it out straight:
"Your blood pressure's up. Cholesterol's up. You're headed for a heart attack or heart disease if you don't make some changes."
I felt like I'd been punched in the gut.
My girls need their dad. My wife depends on me. I couldn't afford to ignore this.
So I panicked. And I did what every man does — I tried to "get disciplined."
I forced myself into another diet. Worked out hard for two weeks. And failed. Again.
The shame was brutal. That voice in my head — "What's wrong with you?" — wouldn't stop.
Then it hit me like a truck:
If "trying harder" worked, I'd already be fit.
So I broke the rules. I did the opposite of everything I'd been told.
I tossed out the guilt. I stopped chasing discipline. And I started rebuilding from the ground up — not my habits first, but my identity.
I stopped trying to do healthy things and started becoming a healthy man.
In 6 months, everything changed:
- Cut 30+ pounds of fat
- Packed on 10-15 pounds of muscle
- Blood work? Perfect
- Energy? Through the roof
One year after that gut-punch conversation, I sat in the same doctor's office. Same chair. Same doc.
But this time, he had a massive - almost astonished - smile on his face.
His words: "You're healthier at 41 than most of my patients in their 20s. Whatever you're doing, keep doing it — and help others do the same!"
How Beyond Discipline Was Born
Since my transformation, three questions followed me everywhere:
How did you make such a massive physical transformation — over 40, with the incredibly busy life you have?
What supplements did you take? What program did you use?
Can you teach me how to do it too?
I was honestly blown away by how many men — in my direct circle of contact alone — wanted the kind of transformation I'd made. I live in a small town in South Carolina, so my direct circle isn't massive.
Over the last two years, I've coached dozens of men through this exact process — men in my own circle, in my own community. Every single man who committed and didn't quit when it got hard became a man who lives Beyond Discipline. Transformed from the former version of himself. Constantly becoming more of the man God made him to be. Showing up strong every day for the people who need him most.
As I watched more and more men transform — and realized my sphere of influence was limited to who I could reach personally — I couldn't stop thinking about how many other men out there were stuck in the same cycle. Men I'd never meet without building something bigger.
So, with an entrepreneur's spirit and the reach the modern world makes possible, Beyond Discipline was born. Not merely as a business venture, but primarily to provide hope, value, and real transformation to men all over the world.
This world needs men of strong faith, character, and heart more today than ever before. Men who live Beyond Discipline — who show up strong for the people who need them most.
I built Beyond Discipline as a pathway to success — because I wish someone had shown me sooner.
Shown me that discipline isn't the answer — identity and community are.
Shown me the daily rhythm that makes staying fit automatic — no white-knuckle willpower, no shame, no grinding.
Shown me that transformation after 40 isn't just possible. It's inevitable — if you have the right focus, the right rhythms, and the right brotherhood around you.
I built Beyond Discipline because there's so much life to live beyond 40. And so much to live for.
You're not broken. You've just been on the wrong path for your journey. Not only can the life you desire be won — it's yours for the taking. The road won't always be easy, but the things worth having rarely are. You owe it to the ones who count on you to rise above what's held you back.
In case you're wondering — yes, I'm a real person. These photos are me.
The picture on the left was taken in October 2023 — roughly 2 months before that Wednesday in December that changed everything.
And the one on the right was in July of 2024 — 6.5 months after I made the decision to change or die trying. With baby girl #3 on the way — as if the stakes weren't high enough already.
And all it took was 6 months — a new identity, a sustainable rhythm, and a lot of hard work that never actually felt like hard work — to reverse it all.

If you've read this far, you already know this isn't the typical 7-minute abs, get-ripped-in-2-weeks, magic-weight-loss-pill gimmick flooding the market.
I'm not selling six-pack abs or a magic number on the scale. I'm promising something harder to find and worth far more — a man who shows up fully for the people who need him, every single day.
This path is simple to follow, but simple does not mean easy.
If the result you want is a life you can live to the fullest — and the ability to become the man your family deserves — and you're willing to do it the right way, then you're in the right place.
Two foundational facts about the results you want:
1- Sustainable results only come when success is measured not by the results themselves — but by the process. Stay laser-focused on mastering the lead measures, and the results will come.
2- If you truly commit to this transformation — if you RISE to THRIVE and ASCEND — in 6 months, the only regret you'll have is not starting sooner.
If I can do it, you can do it.
The question is: are you ready to RISE above the mindset that's kept you stuck, THRIVE in a daily rhythm that becomes second nature, and have an ASCENT that never ends?
Your family needs you at your best.
It’s time to RISE. Let’s go.
