
It was a Wednesday afternoon in early December 2023. I was sitting in my doctor's office for my annual checkup — just a few days before turning 40.
Thirty-five pounds overweight. The worst shape of my life.
The doc walked in with a somber look on his face. Sat across from me. Looked me in the eye. And laid it out straight:
Your blood pressure's up. Cholesterol's up. You're headed for a heart attack or heart disease if you don't make some changes.
Punched in the gut.
My girls need their dad. My wife depends on me. I couldn't afford to ignore this.
So I did what every man does — I tried to get disciplined.
